PRESS RELEASE – MicroA pushing forward on astaxanthin production

PRESS RELEASE – MicroA pushing forward on astaxanthin production 150 150 MicroA

MicroA has decided to industrialize microalgae production in Norway. The first step will be to upgrade our existing patented production system, a system that has demonstrated exceptional good capabilities in terms of production efficiency and product quality.

The product is microalgal biomass with a content of 4-5% of the astaxanthin. Astaxanthin is an antioxidant for use in food supplements, cosmetic products, and a candidate for use within the pharmaceutical industry.

A 16 MNOK (€ 2 M) project was initiated in Q1 2016, aiming for further developments of equipment and production technology for an industrial pilot. The main goal of the project is to present an industrial scalable and profitable commercial production solution. Test production will start in Q1 2017, with target for industrial production within few years, depending on market access.

MicroA has received 50% grants from Innovation Norway through their Environmental Technology/Bio-Catalyst program.
