Summary 2015

Summary 2015 1920 1086 MicroA

MicroA has tested out the capacity of MicroA’s patented photobioreactor which shows high production rates and probably some of the highest content of Astaxanthin in alga biomass. Astaxanthin is a natural pigment mainly produced by the alga Haematococcus pluvialis. Last year’s pilot work has been vital to prepare MicroA for the final phase, the commercial phase. We plan to expand our pilot system to industrial system ready for large scale production in near future.

Also, MicroA have together with GlycoMar completed our EUREKA EUROSTARS 2-year project PAMEC. The project has been highly successful by scaling up production and improving yield of a high value polysaccharide product. The ongoing collaboration with GlycoMar has proved to be very productive, and will be continued in the future. MicroA’s own patented photobioreactor system has been used in the PAMEC project as well, thus demonstrating the capability of our PBR-system by cultivating two completely different algae species. The project has been financially supported by The Research Council of Norway.
